Welcome

I am a freelance saxophonist/flutist, drummer, composer and bandleader based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, New Orleans and related styles.

My career has taken me worldwide, recording and touring with David Bowie, Luther Vandross, Laura Nyro, Melba Liston, Chic, Bo Diddley and many others. I have been fortunate to perform at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Grammys in Los Angeles, Montreux, Pori (Finland), the Netherlands, Rio de Janeiro, Acapulco and many other exciting places.

I love composing, and I'm excited that the Montclair Women's Big Band is in the process of recording four of my original compositions for our upcoming second album. A recent Composition grant from the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music will enable me to continue writing for the Big Band.

Playing with many different ensembles keeps me on my toes. These days, in addition to playing tenor with the Montclair Women's  Big Band, I perform regularly with The Party Monsters (drums with my 5-piece party cover band), The Bonafides (sax with a New Orleans R&B quintet), Recovered Vinyl (drums with a Rockabilly group), The James Moseley Band (sax with this 9-piece R&B show band), The Class Act Big Band (drums with this swing and Latin dance band) and Leave it to Diva (sax with this large R&B party band).

I am ever grateful for my wonderful life. Thanks for looking!

Cheers, Jean

From The Press

. . . the set featured the rich rousing saxophone of Jean Fineberg.

Los Angeles Times

Gifted saxophonist Jean Fineberg’s skill and musicality on tenor and flute were obvious. Her sound is strong-toned, vigorous, intense and technically accomplished. She is potentially a major player with a distinctive personal presence.

New York Post

Fineberg displayed a remarkable range on saxophone and flute . . . delicate leads & robust sax solos.
